Solitude Stud….the beginning.

Solitude began in the late 1980’s when we ‘rescued’ a neglected  piebald Shetland mare named Holly. Holly’s hoofs were around 9 inches long, she was emaciated and very wormy. After many visits from the farrier and vet, lots of good food and tlc, Holly regained her health.  As Holly was going to be with us for a while, we bought her a companion, an APSB registered black Shetland mare, Willowgreen Laurette.

We soon became addicted to these beautiful ponies and decided to breed from Laurette. Then came the purchase of more mares, foals were born and stallions bought. Solitude has around fifteen ponies at any time.

Holly passed away after eight years with us, her estimated age was thirty seven!

The photo on the left is how Holly arrived at Solitude and the photo on the right is a contented Holly after only a few months.

Solitude now….

Solitude stud is situated in the lovely township of Kersbrook, approximately 45 kilometers north east of Adelaide.  Our ponies roam around thirty lush acres of dairy  country. We are ever on alert for signs of founder! We currently have fourteen Shetland ponies, a welsh mare, a hack and 2 rescued donkeys.

We usually only breed two or three foals a year, and the mares never breed more than every two years. All of our ponies are registered with The Australian Pony Stud Book Society.

We occasionally have youngstock for sale and enquiries are welcome.
