Solitude began in the late
1980’s when we ‘rescued’ a neglected piebald
Shetland mare named Holly.
Holly’s hoofs were around 9 inches long, she was emaciated and very wormy.
After many visits from the farrier and vet, lots of good food and tlc, Holly
regained her health. As Holly was going to be with us for a while, we
bought her a companion, an APSB registered black
Shetland mare, Willowgreen
Laurette.
We soon became addicted to these beautiful ponies and decided to
breed from Laurette. Then came the purchase of more mares, foals were born
and stallions bought. Solitude has around fifteen ponies at any time.
Holly passed away after eight
years with us, her estimated age was thirty seven!
